Over time, I’ve learned a lot about survival. How it can shape you. How sometimes growing is the last thing you want to do but you are shaped by events regardless.
The concept for this poem had been knocking around for months before I got it down on paper; it was hearing a poem by the wonderful Jess Davies live at the Glee which gave me the key to how best to attack it.
This poem is for anyone who has questioned the results of the crucibles they lived through.
(And I apologise now for slightly shaky camera skills – there’s only so much you can do when you have to go out to your local woods to film poems!)
I’ll hold the camera for you if you want on the trails. Or provide you with a small tripod!
